Jawai in February and March: Spring on the Granite Hills

Warming days, drying grass and increasingly open views: why late winter is a favourite for many visitors.

25 October 2026 · 2 min read

As winter loosens its grip, Jawai turns golden. Grass dries, the rocks warm early and animals become easier to spot.

Weather

Mornings remain cool, afternoons warm up quickly. Carry layers for dawn and a hat for midday.

Wildlife

Migrant birds start to leave, while raptors, peafowl and mammals remain active. Many guides rate this a very good time for sightings.

Planning

Weekends can fill. Book two to three weeks ahead and ask about the best slots.

Photography in spring

Light is clean and golden, the grass is pale and animals stand out against dry rock. Evening drives are especially good.

Heat to come

From late March, afternoons get hot. Plan drives early and late and rest indoors at midday.

Making the most of the season

Spring is a good time for combining a leopard drive with a village walk, since fields are bare and the light is soft. Carry a hat for midday and keep a flask of water. If you are travelling with children, shorter evening drives are comfortable now that days are longer.
