Ranakpur is one of the great sights of Rajasthan, and it is only about 48 km from Bera, roughly an hour by road. It pairs beautifully with the wildness of Jawai, giving you calm, carved marble after the rough granite hills.

What is Ranakpur?

Ranakpur is a complex of Jain temples set in a wooded valley. The main temple, dedicated to Adinath, is famous for its delicate marble carving and its forest of intricately sculpted pillars. Its construction dates back to around the 15th century.

What to see

  • The main marble temple: carved ceilings, pillars and domes, each with different designs.
  • Smaller temples nearby: quieter and often less crowded.
  • The surrounding forest: a green, shaded setting that feels cool even in summer.

Visiting rules to know

  • Dress modestly: cover shoulders and knees. Shorts and sleeveless tops are usually not allowed.
  • No leather items: belts, wallets and bags may need to be left outside.
  • Timings: hours for non-Jain visitors are generally in the afternoon, with different hours for worshippers. Check current timings before you go.
  • Photography: rules can change, and there may be a fee for cameras. Ask at the entrance.
  • Behave quietly: it is an active place of worship.

Planning the day

  • Do an early safari in Jawai, return for breakfast, then leave for Ranakpur by late morning.
  • Reach Ranakpur in time for the visitor hours, and allow two to three hours there.
  • Have lunch near the temples and return to Bera in the afternoon or evening.

Combine with Kumbhalgarh

Kumbhalgarh Fort is a bit further north and is often combined with Ranakpur on a full-day trip. See day trips from Jawai and our 3-day itinerary.
