Away from big cities, the sky around Bera is dark and often clear. A short evening outside can be the nicest end to a safari day.
When to look
Clear winter nights, roughly October to March, give the crispest skies. Nights around the new moon are the darkest. In the monsoon, clouds often block the view.
What you can see
Bright planets, constellations and, on a dark, moonless night, the Milky Way. Your eyes need 15 to 20 minutes to adjust, so avoid looking at phone screens.
Tips
- Wear warm clothes because nights get cold.
- Use a star-map app in red or night mode.
- Bring a reclining chair or mat.
- For photos, use a tripod, a wide lens and a long exposure.
- A hot chai helps. We can often arrange a campfire evening at the hotel.
Our family-run hotel in Bera is a short drive from the hills. See the rooms or request a stay, and ask us anything on WhatsApp.
