A trip to Jawai does not have to be strenuous. Safaris are done sitting in a vehicle, and a good plan keeps everything relaxed. Many of our guests travel with parents and grandparents.
Is the safari comfortable?
Drives use private open jeeps on village tracks and rocky roads. The ride can be bumpy in places, but you can ask for a gentle pace, shorter drives and regular stops. You do not need to climb the hills or walk long distances. Choosing the evening drive avoids the very early start.
Tips for a smooth safari
- Sit in the more stable front or middle seats if you are sensitive to bumps.
- Bring a seat cushion and a light shawl or jacket for cold mornings.
- Carry your medicines, a water bottle and glasses or sunglasses.
- Tell the driver about any back or joint problems when you book.
Choosing the right room
Pick a room with easy access, good lighting and a clean attached bathroom. Ask about ground-floor options and lift or stair access when you enquire. See our rooms for details.
Food and health
- Our kitchen is 100% vegetarian, with lightly spiced and Jain options available on request.
- Drink bottled or filtered water, and eat regular meals.
- Carry prescriptions and keep a list of your medicines. Larger hospitals are in the nearby towns.
Pacing the trip
- Plan at least two nights, with one drive a day instead of two.
- Avoid hot afternoons in summer, and warm up with tea in winter.
- Keep day trips short. See day trips from Jawai and choose a single stop.
