Choosing between Udaipur and Jodhpur as your gateway
Udaipur airport is about 129 km away and the drive to Bera is around two hours and 15 minutes. Jodhpur airport is about 173 km and nearer three hours. If you are flying in from Delhi or Mumbai, check both for the best schedule and fare. Udaipur is usually easier for a quick trip. Jodhpur suits those combining the Blue City and Mehrangarh Fort. Doing it by train
The nearest stations are around Sumerpur, roughly 18 km from Bera, and Falna, a larger junction. Check the timetable and which trains stop at each station on IRCTC, and arrange a taxi for the last stretch. Arriving at night is better avoided; pick trains that reach by morning or afternoon. Driving yourself or hiring a driver
Highways are good, but rural stretches have cattle, tractors and few lights. A driver who knows the route is comfortable, especially for the last hour. If you drive yourself, leave early, fill fuel before the last stretch, keep some cash for tolls and avoid driving after dark. Share your arrival time with the hotel so someone can meet you.
Distances on our site are real road distances and can be checked on the interactive map on the Explore Jawai page.
Tips
- Roads are good but villages and livestock crossings mean you should avoid driving fast after dark.
- Arrive the evening before your first safari so you can rest and start at first light.
- Ask us to arrange a taxi from the airport or station – message us on WhatsApp with your arrival time.
